​​​​​​​Terminology Unit of the Government Translation Service

The Terminology Unit has the mandate to:

  • create official government terminology in French

  • manage and disseminate official government terminology in English and French through the ONTERM website

  • develop corporate guidelines on preferred French-language usage

Our team handles all terminology requests. There is always a terminologist on duty during office hours (Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), except on statutory holidays.

​​The Government Translation Service (GTS)​, Ontario Shared Services, Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, is responsible for managing English-French translation services and providing terminology services. This includes:

  • procuring translation ​services and managing contracts with vendor​s to ensure quality services at competitive prices

  • coordinating large, sensitive or complex translation projects

  • creating French official government terminology and providing corporate guidelines on preferred French-language usage

  • managing and disseminating the English and French official government terminology through the ONTERM website and providing Ontario Public Sector clients and the public with a terminology service for official government names
